About Me

Introduction

Dear fellow students,

My name is Ria Samuel, and it gives me great pleasure to offer my candidacy for the position of President in the upcoming CCLCS Students’ Guild Elections (2025-2026).

Professionally, I have been an educator for over 22 years. I am currently a secondary school English and Communication Studies teacher. However, I received a full-time scholarship from my union, the Trinidad and Tobago Unified Teachers’ Association (TTUTA), to pursue a two-year Associate Degree programme in OSHE at CCLCS.

In my first year at CCLCS, I immediately decided to serve on the Students’ Guild as I saw the importance of becoming involved in matters affecting the student community. I consider myself a servant leader, and I saw an opportunity to utilise my knowledge, skills and experience in student activism, advocacy and trade unionism to better assist students. I was elected as the Public Relations and Communications Officer (PRCO), and as PRCO, I spearheaded and supported many Guild initiatives.

Having served as the PRCO, I see my candidacy for President as a natural progression as the President is considered the chief spokesperson, liaison and advocator of the student body.

If elected President, it will be my duty to lead by inspiring, empowering and supporting students so that their voices and opinions are heard and valued.
